Inside EARL GODOT

A garment reveals its truth from the inside. Every seam, every layer, every hidden structure carries intention. EARL GODOT constructs each piece from the inside out, establishing its internal framework first so the garment can hold shape, move naturally, and endure.

This page opens the garment for you. It shows how we cut, grade, construct, and finish every piece with rare precision.

Tailoring With Structure: Horsehair Canvas & Hybrid Interlining

Most modern brands rely solely on fusible interlinings - a quick, inexpensive method that flattens the garment’s internal architecture.

We take a different approach.

EARL GODOT uses a hybrid construction technique: Fusible interlining for stability, Horsehair canvas for structure, longevity, and sculptural shaping. This combination creates a chest and lapel that hold form over years and a garment that feels alive, not laminated.

Horsehair canvas is a traditional tailoring material used in fine menswear and couture. By combining it with modern fusibles, we achieve clarity, durability, and comfort - a balance rarely found in contemporary womenswea

Pattern Cutting & Grading: Controlled by Hand

We do not use automatic grading systems.

Every size is graded manually, checked for balance, adjusted for movement and refined for proportion. This ensures consistent fit across sizes and silhouettes that remain true to the original design.

Automatic grading often distorts the garment. Manual grading keeps full control over fit and allowances.

Fabric Selection: Natural First, Purposeful Always

We choose fabrics the way architects choose materials - for how they hold form, how they move, and how they endure.

Our philosophy is simple: Natural fibres first. Synthetics only when they serve a purpose. Never fully synthetic fabrics.

We use wool for purity, drape, and resilience, cotton for breathability and structure, viscose for movement and comfort often with a small percentages of synthetic fibres to increase durability, to improve crease recovery, to stabilise the fabric, to support sculptural cuts. We do not use: 100% polyester and acetate fabrics or synthetic linings where they touch the body. These choices ensure breathability, comfort,  longevity, tactile clarity and a premium feel that lasts.

Natural fibres give the garment its character. Synthetics, used sparingly, give it strength.

Linings & Interiors: Built for Comfort and Durability

The interior of a garment is where comfort lives.

We use viscose or viscose blends for lining, cotton pocketing, soft internal bindings, structured interlinings where needed for shape. Viscose lining allows the garment to breathe and move. Cotton pocketing withstands years of use.

These choices are rarely visible - but always felt.

Construction that follows the body - not the other way around.

Every blazer, jacket, and coat is shaped to follow the natural architecture of the body. The front of the garment is never flat, it contains deep darts or curved seams for a controlled shaping through the chest. This ensures enough room for the bust and a silhouette that feels supportive rather than restrictive. This is one of the most overlooked elements in contemporary womenswear. We treat it as essential.

Trouser architecture that gives confidence

Our trousers are engineered with a precise seat construction that supports and shapes without flattening or pulling through balanced back rise, sculpted seat seams and controlled curvature. The trousers sit cleanly, move comfortably, and create a sense of confidence that is felt immediately when worn.

This is why EARL GODOT trousers “feel right” - they are built to respect the body’s natural form.

Made in the United Kingdom

Many of our tailored garments are crafted in the UK, where traditional tailoring knowledge remains alive. This ensures consistent quality, skilled craftsmanship with short supply chains. We work closely with our makers, refining each piece until it meets our standard of clarity and structure.

    Why This Matters

In a world of fast production and automated processes, craftsmanship is not a luxury - it is a responsibility.

Our approach ensures: better fit, longer life, more comfort and more integrity in every piece.

This is why EARL GODOT garments feel different. They are built differently.
